Barry Connick

Barry first became interested in dancing as a teenager, learning the ballroom styles wherever and whenever he could, often dancing with his sister who was teaching lessons at a local studio. As he became a young adult, Barry was able to start lessons through the local school programs. By the time he turned 21 he began teaching American Smooth Ballroom basics with Arthur Murray Studios in San Francisco. After a appearing in a stage production, a choreographer asked him to train to dance professionally. Barry chose marriage instead and decided the stage was not in his future. Today he operates a successful dance club teaching the combined styles of ballroom and country styles, with emphasis on “social dancing” as opposed to strict ballroom style. Barry’s style of teaching is to encourage the student to become comfortable with dancing at clubs and lounges, weddings, etc. In other words, “social dancing”.
